Dear Coach:
As you probably realize by now, the Coaching Education Program nationally, and in Michigan, has adopted new education requirements. For many new coaches, the new requirements are much simpler than before. For example, coaches only need to attend one clinic per season at most, where in the past some coaches had to attend 2, 3, or even 4. We've also added age-specific online training as part of the American Development Model program. As we move to the mid-part of the season, the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) is preparing to qualify teams and coaches to participate in District/State/National tournaments. Due to the newness of the coaching program requirements, MAHA is asking association leaders to check credentials well in advance, to ensure your ability to participate for the full 2011-12 season. The leadership of MAHA approved this on November 4. The information below will be sent to all our local programs. I thought you should be aware of it as well. I hope that your season is going well, that your players are having a great time, and that if you attend a coaching clinic, you will thank the volunteers who run our program here in Michigan. Yours in hockey, Jack Witt USA Hockey Michigan District Coach in Chief Michigan Amateur Hockey Association Coach Credential Verification Procedure
MAHA wants to ensure that no coach gets disqualified and removed from a roster for not completing the annual educational requirements. The local hockey organizations are responsible for ensuring that the coaches know about the deadline; and the organizations need to verify that any uncertified coaches are removed from the roster so as not to jeopardize the eligibility of players and teams. This procedure should be followed annually to ensure that.

DATE: June 22, 2010
USA Hockey has enjoyed another successful year, highlighted by continued growth at our entry-level age group, the further roll-out and embracing of the American Development Model, and unparalleled results in international competition. Yet there is nothing more vital to the continued advancement of our sport that making it safe.
Attached for your review and implementation is a new policy on Locker Room Supervision that was passed overwhelmingly at our recent Board of Directors meeting.
Please forward this (or download and make copies) to everyone in your association who is in a leadership position or is responsible for the communication and implementation of policies and procedures.
A couple of notes on this policy... our youth players need to know that their hockey environment is safe. This policy ensures that a responsible adult is looking over their shoulders at all times. Of course, all locker room monitors should be gender correct and the co-ed locker room policy must be followed as described in the current USA Hockey Guide. Also, all monitors must be screened and otherwise meet all USA Hockey screening standards.
In the near future we will be sending you additional information about all USA Hockey Policies including Screening, Zero Tolerance and Gender Equity (co-ed locker room).

BLUE PUCKS MANDATORY FOR MITES
It has been brought to our attention that some associations in D7 are not currently using the blue pucks for all Mite and Cross-Ice programs. This is a USA Hockey rule, therefore, all associations MUST comply. Failure to follow this rule could result in hearings and possible suspensions. If you do not currently use the blue puck for your Mite and Cross-Ice programs, you need to make the change immediately. Thank You.
Mike Corso
